Grassroots Concerns Not New; Everyone Will Get Fair Share – Godwin Ayaba Mahama

Story by Maurice Otoo

The Presidential Spokesperson and Corporate Affairs Officer, Godwin Ayaba Mahama, has responded to concerns raised by grassroots supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over alleged neglect following the party’s assumption of power.

Speaking on the matter with Kojo Preko Dankwa at Kessben Maakye, Mr. Ayaba acknowledged that complaints from foot-soldiers and grassroots members about being sidelined after electoral victory are not new in Ghana’s political landscape.

According to him, the government understands the concerns being expressed but urged patience, assuring party loyalists that everyone will receive their fair share of opportunities in due time.

“I plead with the grassroots that everybody will get their fair share of the cake in due time,” he said.

Mr. Mahama Ayaba cautioned party supporters who have begun expressing frustration publicly to remain calm, noting that those “throwing tantrums” should be careful since they may not know when they could be considered for an appointment or opportunity.

He explained that the government is focused on prudence in managing the country’s resources and will only employ eligible citizens when the state has the capacity to do so.

The Presidential Spokesperson also addressed claims that some government appointees stop responding to calls from party supporters after assuming office. While acknowledging such perceptions, he insisted that not all officials behave that way.

“People say government appointees don’t even pick their calls upon assumption of office, but I beg to differ. Not all of us are like that,” he stated.

Mr. Ayaba further emphasized that the party remains committed to its loyal supporters and will not abandon those who worked hard for its electoral success.

“We cannot abort our own people and adopt the unknown,” he added.

His comments come amid growing discussions among grassroots supporters of the NDC who have been calling for greater inclusion in government opportunities after the party returned to power.
