“Don’t Sack State Officials After Every Election” — Former Akatsi North DCE Praises Mahama Over EC Decision
Story: Maurice Otoo

Former District Chief Executive for Akatsi North, Dr. Prince Sodoke Amuzu, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for what he describes as a bold decision not to interfere with the leadership of the Electoral Commission of Ghana despite political expectations from party supporters.
According to Dr. Amuzu, the Electoral Commission is a constitutionally mandated institution responsible for managing the country’s electoral affairs and must be protected from political pressure.
He expressed satisfaction that both the President and the Chief Justice, have effectively cleared the Commission of alleged wrongdoing.
Dr. Amuzu indicated that government may have acted based on sound legal advice, warning that removing leadership of such an institution without proven misconduct could be detrimental to the Judicial Service and democratic governance.
He noted, however, that the Constitution provides clear procedures for removing officials if any proven misconduct arises, adding that political dissatisfaction alone should not be grounds for dismissal.
While acknowledging that some party foot-soldiers might feel disappointed due to earlier expectations, he applauded the President for prioritizing institutional stability over partisan interests.
The former DCE further urged political actors to abandon the practice of replacing heads of independent state institutions whenever power changes hands, stressing that continuity strengthens democracy and public confidence in governance.
