NPP Diaspora Members Urge Party Unity, Back Opoku Prempeh as Running Mate for 2028 Elections

Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) is rallying behind a call for unity among its members as the country gears up for the 2028 general elections. The party’s external branches in the diaspora have thrown their weight behind Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, urging the party hierarchy to retain him as the running mate for the 2028 elections.
The call was made in Accra, Ghana, when the diaspora presented a citation to Dr. Opoku Prempeh in recognition of his support for diaspora affairs and his performance during the Akufo-Addo administration. Engineer Raymond Boateng, Vice Chairman of NPP Massachusetts, USA Branch, emphasized the importance of unity within the party, particularly after the presidential primaries.
“We believe that internal cohesion must take precedence over factional interests if the party is to successfully project its next presidential candidate and recapture power in 2028,” Engineer Boateng said. “The NPP’s external branches remain committed to supporting party structures in Ghana and will continue to engage leadership to promote reconciliation, mobilisation, and effective campaign organisation.”

The citation presented to Dr. Opoku Prempeh highlighted his engagement with Ghanaians abroad and his contribution to governance during the previous administration. Engineer Boateng appealed to the party hierarchy to choose Dr. Opoku Prempeh as running mate, citing his consistency and strong performance as Vice President.
“We told the delegates that Dr. Bawumia is the man for the job, and we believe that Dr. Opoku Prempeh is the perfect running mate to complement his consistency message,” Engineer Boateng said. “We urge the party to retain him as running mate and build on the progress made so far.”
The event was part of ongoing engagements between the party’s diaspora wing and key stakeholders as preparations gradually begin toward the next electoral cycle. The NPP is looking to recapture power in 2028, and the call for unity and retention of Dr. Opoku Prempeh as running mate is seen as a significant boost to the party’s chances.
The party’s external branches have been actively engaging with key stakeholders, including Dr. Opoku Prempeh, to promote unity and rebuild confidence in the party. The move is expected to strengthen the party’s electoral prospects and position it for victory in the 2028 general elections.
As the NPP prepares for the next electoral cycle, the call for unity and retention of Dr. Opoku Prempeh as running mate is expected to resonate with party members and supporters. The party’s commitment to reconciliation, mobilisation, and effective campaign organisation is seen as a key factor in its bid to recapture power in 2028.
