Galamsey has drastically reduced in our district since President Mahama became president – Ibrahim Yamba Nelson Issaka, Ahafo Ano South East DCE

Illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, has drastically reduced in the Ahafo Ano South East District since President John Dramani Mahama assumed office, according to the District Chief Executive (DCE), Ibrahim Yamba Nelson Issaka.
Speaking in an interview on Kessben FM with host Wofa Kofi Appiah, the DCE attributed the decline in galamsey activities to renewed government commitment, strengthened enforcement measures, and improved collaboration between security agencies and local authorities. He noted that the district has seen significant progress in protecting farmlands, forest reserves, and water bodies that were previously threatened by illegal mining.
Mr. Issaka emphasized that community engagement has also played a key role in the fight against galamsey. Traditional leaders, opinion leaders, and youth groups, he said, have become more involved in reporting illegal activities and supporting lawful mining practices.
He further called on residents to sustain the momentum by cooperating with authorities and resisting the temptation to engage in illegal mining for short-term gains. According to him, sustainable development and environmental protection remain top priorities for the district under the current administration.
The DCE reaffirmed the district’s commitment to supporting national efforts to completely eliminate galamsey and ensure a safer environment for future generations.
