Galamsey fight challenging, but Government is steadfast and winning the fight – Mahmud Kabore

Mahmud Kabore, Spokesperson for the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, said in a recent interview on Kessben FM has emphasized the evolving challenges in Ghana’s battle against illegal mining.
Kabore explained that the lucrative nature of Galamsey has encouraged operators to constantly adapt and find new ways to evade enforcement efforts, making the fight complex and ongoing. Despite these setbacks, he stressed that the government remains in the lead in anti‑galamsey operations and is committed to disrupting financial incentives that sustain illegal mining activities.
He highlighted the need for increased financial and logistical support to bolster patrols and protect vulnerable water bodies and natural reserves from continued environmental degradation. He outlined plans to establish permanent monitoring stations across key regions to strengthen enforcement and deter illegal miners.
While acknowledging the resilience of illicit operators, he affirmed that sustained government leadership, backed by resources, community cooperation, and public support, remains critical to winning the galamsey fight.
