Pro-Bawumia Group launched in Belgium ahead of NPP primaries

A pro-Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia support group, United Belgium for Bawumia (UBB), has been officially launched in Belgium, marking a significant boost to the Vice President’s diaspora mobilisation efforts ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31.

The group was inaugurated on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at an event that brought together a broad cross-section of New Patriotic Party supporters and sympathisers resident in Belgium, the majority of whom openly declared their commitment to Dr. Bawumia’s flagbearer bid. The launch also attracted notable party figures from Ghana and other European NPP branches, underscoring the growing momentum of the Bawumia campaign within the diaspora.

Among the dignitaries present were Emmanuel Attafuah-Danso, former Director for Diaspora Affairs and former Acting National Youth Organiser of the NPP; Rayan Salisu Kentebako, Secretary of the NPP Austria Branch and Secretary to the Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia Diaspora Campaign Team; and Gifty Asare, former parliamentary aspirant for the Kade Constituency and current Women’s Organiser of the NPP Spain Branch.

Unity

Opening the event, Chairman of the NPP Belgium Branch, Solomon Agyin, popularly known as King Solomon, appealed for unity and discipline within the party. He urged supporters of all five presidential aspirants to conduct their campaigns with decorum, stressing that party cohesion would be critical after the internal elections.

Delivering the founders’ address, Andrews Perprem, Acting Secretary of the Antwerp Chapter of the NPP and a co-founder of UBB, outlined the group’s core objectives. He said UBB is committed to campaigning vigorously to secure at least 80 percent of the vote for Dr. Bawumia in the NPP primaries, mobilising both financial and human resources for the 2028 general elections, and engaging actively in grassroots campaigning to ensure victory in the presidential race.

Mr. Perprem noted that the group would work closely with the NPP Belgium Branch and existing party structures to promote unity, coordination, and mutual respect across the diaspora. He emphasised that UBB is founded on consensus, trust, and shared sacrifice among its five co-founders: Andrews Perprem, Ralph Panford, Richmond Nyantakyi Bekoe, Kelvin Afrifa, and Saida Dauda.

Appeal

He appealed to the executives of the NPP Belgium Branch to view UBB as partners in a common cause, while encouraging party members with reservations about the group to engage constructively rather than assume ill intent. Addressing his fellow founders, Mr. Perprem urged discipline, respect for party structures, collective communication, and integrity as guiding principles.

Other speakers, including Ralph Panford, Emmanuel Attafuah-Danso, Rayan Salisu Kentebako, and Nana Akosua Nyamekye, First Vice-Chairperson of the NPP Belgium Branch, called on Belgium-based delegates to rally behind Dr. Bawumia.

The launch of United Belgium for Bawumia formally signals the start of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign activities in Belgium, with seventeen recognised delegates present at the event publicly declaring their unwavering support for his candidacy.
