Feedback Africa Rate President Mahama Performance High, but Local Government Lags Behind

A citizen perception survey conducted by Feedback Africa, led by Professor Smart Sarpong, reveals that Ghanaians have a positive view of President’s performance, with a score of 74%. The survey assessed various aspects of governance, including income versus cost of living, local government performance, central government performance, and ministerial ranking.

According to the survey, the overall performance of the NDC government in 2025 was rated as “good” with a score of around 66%. Central government’s performance scored 51.6%, with notable successes in currency stability, price management, agriculture, and food security.

However, the survey also highlighted areas of concern, such as industrialization, which was rated as underperforming. Local government performance was rated as a “weak pass” with a score of 43%, with specific areas like street lighting, market maintenance, and installation of street lights receiving a failing grade.

The cost of living was rated as “moderate” by 68.8% of respondents, with 26% describing it as “high to very high”. Professor Sarpong noted that the findings provide valuable feedback for the government to improve its performance.

The survey also revealed a gap between the President’s performance and that of his ministers, which was attributed to the contributions of appointed officials. The team plans to assess other stakeholders, including CEOs, members of parliament, and regional ministers, in future surveys.

The findings offer insights into Ghana’s development and provide a roadmap for improvement. As Professor Sarpong emphasized, the goal is to support the government’s efforts and ensure that citizens’ voices are heard.
