Increment in utility bills not deliberate, It’s due to NPP–IMF agreement – Frank Otuo Acheampong

Frank Otuo Acheampong, a member of the NDC communications team, has clarified that the recent increase in utility tariffs is not a deliberate decision by the current NDC government.

Speaking on Kessben FM, he explained that the adjustments stem from commitments made by the previous NPP administration as part of its agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

According to Acheampong, the NPP government signed specific conditionalities that required periodic tariff reviews to align with cost-recovery measures and ensure the financial sustainability of key utility providers.

He noted that these obligations are binding and must be implemented by the current administration to maintain Ghana’s credibility with international partners.

He argued that blaming the current government for the tariff hikes is misleading, as the increment is simply a continuation of policies initiated before the NDC assumed office.

Acheampong emphasized that the NDC government is working to manage the situation responsibly and protect vulnerable consumers while meeting inherited obligations.
