Two human traffickers in Tema jailed for 40 years combined
Two men convicted of human trafficking have each been sentenced to 20 years in prison by a Circuit Court in Tema.
The convicts, Kingsley Ndifon, 29, and Emmanuel Akong, 25, were found guilty of human trafficking and causing harm following their arrest in August 2023.
The pair were apprehended at Sebrepor, a suburb of Tema, after police responded to a distress call from some of their victims. During the operation, officers rescued 11 Nigerian nationals who had been held against their will in a house.
Investigations revealed that the victims had been lured from Nigeria to Ghana with promises of employment. However, upon arrival, they were allegedly forced into cyber-related criminal activities and confined to the residence in Sebrepor.
The accused were charged with conspiracy to commit crime, human trafficking, and causing harm. After a full trial before Circuit Court B in Tema, they were each sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment for the human trafficking offence and an additional 10 years for causing harm.
The court ordered that the sentences run concurrently, meaning each convict will serve a maximum of 20 years in prison
