Ghana, Germany Strengthen Trade & Investment Ties for Sustainable Growth – Trade Minister

The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to deepening economic cooperation with Germany to drive sustainable industrial growth, job creation, and technology transfer.

Speaking at the Ghana–Germany Business Roundtable held in Accra on Monday,3rd November,2025 at the Ghana Investment Promotion Center, (GIPC) Hon. Ofosu-Adjare lauded the long-standing partnership between the two nations, describing it as a model of mutual trust and shared prosperity.

She highlighted Ghana’s recent economic progress, noting that “inflation is falling, public debt is declining, and investor confidence continues to rise.”

According to her, these developments reflect the government’s strong commitment to fiscal discipline, sound policy reforms, and the creation of a business environment that rewards innovation and long-term investment.

The Minister outlined several flagship initiatives under her Ministry aimed at accelerating industrial transformation. These include the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme, the Feed the Industry Initiative, and the Rapid Industrialization for Jobs Agenda.

She explained that these programmes are opening up new opportunities in manufacturing, agribusiness, renewable energy, logistics, digital innovation, and value-added exports.

Hon. Ofosu-Adjare further acknowledged Germany’s pivotal role as one of Ghana’s most trusted economic partners. “In 2024, bilateral trade reached over US$670 million, with German investments supporting key sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, construction, and services,” she stated, commending the partnership for fostering technology transfer, capacity building, and industrial growth.
Addressing challenges faced by some German businesses operating in Ghana, including tax administration, delays in exemptions, and certification processes, The Minister assured that her Ministry is working closely with relevant agencies to address these concerns.

“We are committed to maintaining Ghana as a transparent, predictable, and investor-friendly destination for German investments,” she affirmed.
The Minister concluded by emphasizing that the Ghana–Germany partnership goes beyond trade, describing it as a collaboration to build strong value chains, create jobs for the youth, and promote inclusive and sustainable development.

In his remarks, the Secretary of State of the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy, Dr. Thomas Steffen, underscored Ghana’s status as a strategic investment partner.

He noted that bilateral trade between the two countries had increased by 30 percent, attributing the growth to Ghana’s sound economic management and attractive investment climate.

Dr. Steffen further praised Ghana’s democratic stability, peaceful environment, and strategic geopolitical position within the African sub-region, stating that these attributes make the country a reliable and promising business destination for the future.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of GIPC, Mr. Simon Madjie, also engaged participants on key issues such as taxation, reiterating that “Ghana remains open for business.”

In her closing remarks, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones
Authority, Dr. Mary Awusi, expressed appreciation to the German government for its continued bilateral cooperation.

She called for deeper collaboration and increased investment in key sectors of the Ghanaian economy to sustain growth and industrial expansion.

Mr Hilary S. kodji, The Executive Secretary of the Ghana- German Economic Association commended the Ministry of Trade Agribusiness & Industry for setting up the Business Regulatory Unit which he described as a very significant initiative that will help facilitate trade & investment at all levels.
