Mahama: Ghanaian health professionals to work in Jamaica under new bilateral pact
President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana and Jamaica have signed an agreement that will see Ghanaian health professionals deployed to work in Jamaica’s health system as part of efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness after bilateral talks, President Mahama said the agreement forms part of broader cooperation between the two countries in health, education, and skills development.
“We’re also happy that we signed the agreements, and soon we’ll have a number of Ghanaian health professionals coming to work in the Jamaican health system,” he said.
The President added that both countries had also agreed on exchange programmes that would enable Jamaican health professionals to travel to Ghana for training before returning home to strengthen Jamaica’s health sector.
Beyond healthcare, Mahama said Ghana and Jamaica are exploring exchanges involving teachers, particularly in physics, mathematics and science, to promote knowledge sharing and build capacity in both countries.
He noted that these initiatives demonstrate the commitment of both nations to expanding practical cooperation and strengthening the longstanding ties between Ghana and Jamaica.
