PPP Vows to Call NPP “Thieves” Until Court Verdict on Ken Ofori-Atta’s Extradition

The Director of Operations of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Divine Nkrumah, has stated that the party will continue to refer to members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as “thieves” until a court delivers a verdict proving otherwise, in the context of the ongoing extradition process of the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
In an interview, Mr. Nkrumah questioned why Ofori-Atta is still outside Ghana and has not availed himself to face the legal process. He argued that if there were no wrongdoing, the former minister would have returned to Ghana to respond to the allegations. He further linked Ofori-Atta’s absence to issues of corruption, suggesting that this is the reason he remains abroad. Responding to claims by the NPP that the former minister cannot be prosecuted, Mr. Nkrumah reiterated:
“We will continue to call these people thieves until the court passes a verdict proving otherwise.”
However, Frank Davies, a member of Ofori-Atta’s legal team, has clarified that the former Finance Minister’s absence is due to health reasons. According to Mr. Davies, Ofori-Atta is currently recuperating abroad after undergoing surgery and will return to Ghana once he has fully recovered. He dismissed suggestions that the former minister is evading the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), emphasizing that his absence is strictly for medical reasons.
The developments come as the OSP prepares to brief the nation on the final stage of Ken Ofori-Atta’s extradition process, amid heightened public attention and political debate over accountability and corruption allegations.
