Ghana reaffirms commitment to media freedom – President Mahama

Ghana’s dedication to bolstering media freedom and encouraging reliable, independent journalism has been reiterated by President John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking at the 2025 Paris Peace Forum’s final session on the topic of information integrity and independent media, President Mahama stated that his administration is still committed to promoting democracy, preserving the rule of law, and defending press freedom.

He claimed that when it comes to promoting media independence and freedom of expression, Ghana is still a model on the African continent.

“Ghana is joining the Partnership for Information and Democracy as a full member and will also support the International Fund for Public Interest Media. This shows our steadfast commitment to advancing the frontiers of freedom, upholding the rule of law, and promoting good governance” the President announced.

Participating in a conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron and other international leaders, President Mahama said the event offered a chance to acknowledge Ghana’s advancements in guaranteeing media independence and information integrity.

He emphasized that governments must keep assisting media organizations and journalists who uphold ethical reporting, accountability, and the truth.
