Asanko Gold Ghana triumphs at national inter-mines safety competition

Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd has emerged victorious in the National Inter-Mines Safety Competition, which the company hosted.

The National Inter-Mines First Aid and Safety Competition aims to bring together top mining companies in Ghana.

The participating mines included Asanko Mines, Ghana Manganese Company Limited (GMC), Golden Star, Gold Fields, AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mines, and Kinross’ Chirano Gold Mines.

The competition was themed “Every Moment is an Ambush, Think Safety All the Time!” and emphasized the importance of prioritizing safety in the mining industry.

In his address, Dr. Charles Amoah, the Executive Vice President and Managing Director for Asanko Gold Ghana Limited, stressed that protecting human life is paramount, surpassing production targets and corporate goals.

He emphasized that safety is a mindset and way of life, rather than a one-day event.

The General Manager noted that hosting the competition demonstrates Asanko’s commitment to shared responsibility for safety across the mining industry.

Mr. Atitiati Emmanuel, Occupational Health and Safety Manager at Asanko, highlighted the need for mining employees and community members to understand basic first aid and safety, stating that promoting safety is a key objective.

The District Chief Executive of Amansie South, Benjamin Marfo, announced plans to collaborate with Asanko and traditional leaders to train motor riders in the communities on road safety, aiming to prevent accidents.
