“In today’s world, criminals utilize digital tools, including mobile phone, the internet and various applications. Signals intelligence allow the national security to lawfully intercept, analyze and interpret this digital communications,” he explained.
“It is a powerful tool that helps our security agencies to track the movement of kidnappers, dismantle network of fraudsters, preempt armed robbery and disrupt activities of transnational criminal organizations, and let me also add equally disrupt the activities of galamse operators.”
Hon. Muntaka emphasized the transformative nature of this technology in Ghana’s security approach.
“When effectively utilized, it moves us from reactive security to proactive prevention, and that is something I continue to champion as the Minister for the interior,” he declared.
The Minister called for enhanced cooperation among security agencies to maximize the facility’s potential.
“National security is not a sole endeavour. It is a collaborative effort. This regional office will collaborate closely with the Ghana police, the National Intelligence Bureau, Ghana fire service, Ghana armed forces and other security intelligence agencies,” he stated.
He specifically urged all security agencies to utilize the facility: “Please, let’s take full advantage of this facility, the police, the fire service, the prison service, the Narcotics Control and all the other agencies. He referenced recent attacks on security personnel, stating: “Just last week, as we speak, we have more than four of our security agencies who are lying in the hospital between life and death simply because they’ve gone out to protect life and property. We are no longer going to do that.”
The Minister acknowledged the historical foundation that made this development possible.
“We must acknowledge the foresight that laid the groundwork for the National signal Bureau’s budget initiated in 2014 during the first tenor of excellency John Dramani Muhammad’s administration, which laid the extensive backbone for the National signal we are seeing today,” he noted.
