Modern Women of Wisdom Organization Condemns MP’s Reckless Defense in KNUST SHS Scandal
Story by Michael Ofosu-Afriyie, Kumasi

Modern Women of Wisdom Organization,a leading advocacy group for children’s rights and women’s empowerment,is outraged by the reckless and insensitive comments made by the Member of Parliament for Twifo Atti-Morkwa regarding the scandal involving the Assistant Headmaster (Academic) of KNUST SHS, Charles Akwasi Aidoo, and a female student.
The MP is reported to have said, “It was a consented thing; both agreed to be in that mood.”
He has also been quoted as claiming that the assistant headmaster did not forcefully fondle the student.
Such remarks are shocking and disgraceful.
They attempt to dress up abuse as consent and reduce a serious breach of trust into casual agreement.
Let us be clear: no student under the authority of a teacher or school official can ever be in a position to give true consent.
The power imbalance between adult educators and young students makes such “agreement” impossible.
When a member of Parliament speaks as though this was mutual and acceptable, it undermines the fight to protect the girl child from predators, emboldens abusers, and silences victims who are already afraid to speak out.
The Ghana Education Service has rightly removed the assistant headmaster from his post following the scandal, but these dangerous comments from a lawmaker show just how far society has to go in understanding and confronting abuse.
It is shameful that instead of condemning the act, a legislator has chosen to trivialize it, insulting every survivor of sexual exploitation.
We call on the Parliament of Ghana to hold the MP accountable for his words and demand an immediate withdrawal and public apology.
We also urge parents, educators, and civil society groups to remain vigilant and not allow the dignity of the girl child to be bartered away under the false banner of “consent.”
Girls are not commodities. They are not playthings. They cannot “agree” to exploitation by adults, especially those in positions of trust.
Leaders who fail to understand this simple truth have no business representing the people.
Modern Women of Wisdom stands firm: we will not be silent while those in authority attempt to normalize abuse.
The future of this country depends on how fiercely we protect the innocence and dignity of the girl child today.
