Lawyer Kwesi Botchway Jnr hails Efua Ghartey as one of GBA’s best Presidents

Lawyer Lawrence Kwesi Botchway Jnr, a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ghana, has described the President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Madam Efua Ghartey, as one of the finest leaders the Association has ever had.
In a statement, he praised Madam Ghartey for her exceptional leadership, vision, and dedication to the welfare of both the Bar and the wider Ghanaian society. According to him, she has brought a refreshing sense of direction to the Association, ensuring that it remains a strong voice in defending constitutional governance, promoting justice, and protecting human rights.
Important pillar
Lawyer Botchway Jnr noted that Madam Ghartey has become an important pillar in Ghana’s democratic process by ensuring that the Bar continues to play its traditional role as the conscience of the nation. He observed that she has consistently spoken against threats to the rule of law and used her office to promote transparency, accountability, and fairness in governance.
“Madam Ghartey has not only represented the interests of lawyers but has also stood firmly on matters that strengthen our democracy. From her strong advocacy for judicial independence to her interventions on corruption and human rights, she has positioned the Bar as a reliable guardian of Ghana’s democratic order,” he stated.
He further highlighted her ability to boldly articulate the concerns of the Bar while engaging constructively with state institutions, which has, in his view, reinforced public confidence in democratic governance.
Professional commitment
Lawyer Botchway Jnr also commended her commitment to professional growth within the legal community. He explained that her administration has created avenues for young lawyers to receive mentorship and encouragement, while also supporting the continuous development of senior practitioners.
He described her presidency as one that combines firmness with humility, inclusiveness with discipline, and advocacy with action. According to him, this leadership style has inspired confidence not only among members of the Association but also within the wider Ghanaian society.
“Under her watch, the Ghana Bar Association has strengthened its collaboration with state institutions, civil society organisations, and the media to advance good governance and the rule of law. “Madam Ghartey has proven that leadership at the Bar is not about occupying an office, but about leaving behind a legacy that inspires generations of lawyers to come,” he further stated.
