As the highly anticipated match between Berekum Chelsea and Asante Kotoko approaches, Lawyer Kwame Boafo, former legal representative for Kumasi Asante Kotoko, seeks to remind Berekum Chelsea supporters that football matches aren’t wars. He notes that it’s essential for supporters to know that the beautiful game is meant to unite fans, showcase skill and sportsmanship, and bring communities together.

“Berekum Chelsea supporters should be reminded that football matches against Kotoko at Berekum aren’t wars,” he stated.

Lawyer Boafo finds videos of Berekum Chelsea fans shown on Kessben TV seemingly containing words of threats and aggressive behaviour during Kickoff and Midfield Action programs a matter that requires immediate attention. He draws parallels between similar utterances made prior to last season’s match between Asante Kotoko and the defunct Nsuatreman FC leading to the infamous Pooley’s murder.

He urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Asante Kotoko, and security agencies to remain alert and put proactive measures in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all fans at Berekum, preventing potential incidents. ”A stitch in time saves nine,” he emphasised.

The much talked about game serves as the opener for both clubs in the upcoming 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season. Berekum Chelsea have a strong home record against Kotoko, remaining unbeaten in their last five meetings at the Golden City Park. Though the venue has not been any favourable grounds for the multiple league winners, Kotoko hopes to turn events around with Chelsea’s former players like Hubert Gyau, Patrick Amoah, Zakaria Fuseini.
