No place in Ghana can contain all the people who intend to attend Lumba’s funeral, The funeral should be held across all regional capitals and towns in Ghana? – DJ KA queries

As the nation continues to mourn the passing of highlife legend Daddy Lumba, a question has been raised by Kessben FM’s presenter, DJ KA, on his Krenkren to Krankran show.

“No place in Ghana can contain all the people who will want to attend Daddy Lumba’s funeral. Should the funeral be held in every town in Ghana?” DJ KA asked on his show.

The late Charles Kwadwo Fosu, known affectionately as Daddy Lumba, is not just a music icon but a national treasure whose death has shaken millions. The suggestion of holding simultaneous or rotating funeral ceremonies across Ghana may sound unconventional, but given the massive influence and reach of Lumba’s legacy, it’s a reflection of reality.

Daddy Lumba’s music transcended age, class, political affiliation, and region. From the streets of Kumasi to Accra’s elite social circles, from the coastal communities to the savannahs of the north, his songs became the soundtrack to Ghanaian life for over three decades. Tracks like “Aben Wo Ha”, “Yentie Obiaa”, and “Theresa” are still cultural staples.

Stadiums like the Accra Sports Stadium or Baba Yara might offer space, but even those may fall short considering the expected national turnout. Social media reactions suggest that fans would be willing to travel across the country, some from the diaspora, just to say goodbye to their icon.

While a nationwide funeral tour may not be logistically feasible, the idea has merit in spirit. Cultural observers and music fans have proposed alternatives.
