President John Dramani Mahama has highlighted the economic challenges facing the Ashanti region, revealed a strategic approach to economic recovery that promises renewed hope for businesses and young professionals.
Speaking in Kumasi during the Ashanti Region “Thank you Tour “ emphasized that, the Ashanti region, historically known for its business acumen, has been severely impacted by recent economic challenges, including a banking sector clean-out and the domestic debt exchange programme. These events devastated local businesses and created significant economic uncertainty.
“The people of Ashanti are known to be astute in business anytime the economy is in decline, Ashanti region is the most affected the recent downturn of our economy experience, the recent downtown our economy experienced, had a devastating effect on businesses in Ashanti many businesses were affected by the banking sector clean out, and many were affected by the domestic debt exchange program.” President Mahama.
“Since January, the administration has implemented aggressive economic stabilization strategies, focusing on strict cost-cutting measures and comprehensive fiscal discipline across government sectors. These interventions have yielded remarkable results.” President Mahama stated.
He said, key economic indicators demonstrate substantial progress. Inflation has rapidly decreased, and the local currency, the cedi, has appreciated significantly against major international currencies. This economic stabilization has restored business confidence and created a more predictable economic environment.
He disclosed that, the government’s primary objective is to transform economic challenges into opportunities, particularly for the Ashanti region’s young workforce. By creating a more stable economic landscape, the administration aims to stimulate business growth and generate much-needed employment opportunities.
“Our focus is clear,” President mentioned. “To build a resilient economy that supports our businesses and provides a sustainable future for our young people.” He added.
