Most of the Galamsey taskforce groups meant to fight Galamsey in Ghana extort money on site – Abdul Razak Alhassan

Abdul Razak Alhassan, the PRO of the Ghana National Association of Small‑Scale Miners (GNASSM), has alleged that members of the government’s anti‑galamsey task force have accepted money from illegal mining sites.

Speaking on Kessben FM. He is urging the government to probe these claims and hold any culpable personnel accountable.

Alhassan claimed insider knowledge indicating that some individuals deployed to fight galamsey, that is, illegal small‑scale gold mining, are being bribed by operators at the mining sites.

According to Alhassan, this malpractice compromises the integrity of the fight against rampant environmental destruction and fuels the persistence of illicit operations.

Alhassan argues that corrupt task force members delegitimize the government’s crackdown and fuel local resentment, potentially tipping some licensed miners into illegal practices as trust breaks down.
