President Mahama launches Feed Ghana Programme to boost agricultural productivity

President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama yesterday launched the Feed Ghana Programme (FGP), as part of the Agriculture For Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA).
This initiative aims at modernizing and growing the agricultural sector, create jobs, reduce food inflation, and enhance food security.
“It is in this context that my government is rolling out the Feed Ghana Programme, under the broader Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AET
A), our ultimate vision.
AETA is the vehicle through which we envision to modernize and grow the agri cultural sector, create jobs, reduce food inflation, enhance food security, boost exports, and support agro-industrial development.
“The Feed Ghana Programme (FGP) is our flagship initiative. It is the strategic u mbrella Programme under which all agricultural projects and interventions will be executed. It is anchored on targeted strategies to increase food production, promote modernized farming practices, strengthen infrastructure, and create a gro-industrial zones across the country” he highlighted.
He said the rising global protectionism and changing geopolitics necessitate a transformation of Ghana’s agricultural sector to boost food security.
Addressing the media at the programme ‘s launch event held at Techiman in the Bono East on April 12, 2025, he outlined the program’s priorities, focusing on commodities that support food security, import substitution, industrial development, and export growth.
“The programme will prioritize commodities that are critical to food security, mport substitution, industrial development, and export growth. These include:
Grains and Legumes: Maize, Rice, Soybean, Sorghum
Vegetables: Tomato, Onion, Pepper
Starchy Crops: Cassava, Plantain, Yam
Industrial Crops: Cocoa, Mango, Oil Palm, Cotton, Coconut, Rubber, Cashew, Shea
Livestock: Poultry, Cattle, Sheep, Goats, and Pigs” he emphasized.
