The Group said an agent was robbed at Kasoa in the Central Region at gunpoint with over Gh¢30,000 bolted away on January 27, 2025, at 7:40 pm, and a similar incident at Spintex HFC Estate in the Greater Region with a whopping sum of Gh¢45,000 stolen on 19th of February, 2025 between 8:30 and 9:00 pm.

Consequently, an agent was also robbed with unspecified amount of money and killed at Krofrom in the Ashanti Region, on January 13, 2025, while another agent was shot and killed at Nkrankwanta, in the Bono Region on January 19th, 2025.

MoMAG in these regards have again called on government to urgently intervene to ensure the safety and security of the mobile money agents as they contribute immensely to the economic growth of the country.

At a press conference in Accra, the Operations Director of MoMAG, Mr. Stephen Quarcoo Gorman said scores of mobile money agents have lost their lives through armed robbery and have urged government to take pragmatic steps to address their security and safety.

According to him, the Group have created jobs for over one million youth and generated significant revenue for the country in taxes, operated beyond banking hours and provides services such as insurance, retail banking, pensions, e-tickets among others.

He however advised agents to close operations by 6:00pm daily and avoid financial transactions in the public space as well as refraining from the withdrawal of huge sums of money.

“Lock your doors while transacting monies with customers and do not fight back with attackers but engage in safety first and call the hotlines of the Police Service and ensure that CCTV cameras are well positioned to monitor robbers,” he advised.
