Kotoko officially confirm they will only be ready to return to play in the Ghana league after Late Pooley’s final funeral rites

Asante Kotoko’s Public Relations Officer, Sarfo Duku, has confirmed that the team will only resume playing in the Ghana Premier League after the completion of Pooley’s final funeral rites. These rites, which will take place on March 6, 2025, are a significant moment of closure for the club and its supporters following the untimely death of Pooley.
Pooley tragically lost his life after being stabbed during Kotoko’s away match against Nsoatreman FC in Match Week 19 of the current Ghana Premier League season. The incident shocked the entire football community and left Kotoko fans devastated. The death of Pooley, a loyal supporter of the club, sparked a wave of grief and calls for justice, as well as for a period of reflection within the Kotoko family.
The fatal stabbing occurred in the heat of the match between Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC, a highly anticipated encounter in the league. Pooley, who had been attending the match in support of his beloved Kotoko, was caught up in a violent altercation. Despite attempts to save him, the fan succumbed to his injuries, sending shockwaves through the football world.
In the wake of this tragic event, Asante Kotoko made the decision to temporarily suspend their participation in the Ghana Premier League. The club’s management, in collaboration with the supporters and other stakeholders, agreed that it would be inappropriate to continue playing under such painful circumstances without properly honoring Pooley’s memory.
Sarfo Duku, the club’s PRO, explained that Kotoko’s leadership had decided to wait until after the funeral rites to resume their league fixtures. The final funeral rites, which are scheduled for March 6, 2025, will provide a fitting tribute to Pooley’s life and his unwavering support for the club.
