Machomen storm and disrupt Ashanti Region Council of State elections
Chaos broke out at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, causing the Ashanti Region’s Council of State elections to be thrown into confusion on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
After voting was finished, there was confusion as “machomen” broke into the building and interrupted the counting process just as Electoral Commission (EC) officials were ready to start.
All of the ballots were destroyed by the intruders.
When the disturbance happened, 86 delegates had already voted for the twelve contenders and were excitedly anticipating the winner’s declaration.
Concerns have been expressed over the integrity of the polls as a result of the situation, and the EC and security services have been called upon to act quickly to restore order and decide how to proceed.
