NPP Has Performed Better in the Road Sector Than the NDC—Hon. Francis Asenso Boakye
The Minister of Roads and Highways and Member of Parliament for the Bantama Constituency, Hon. Francis Asenso Boakye, has asserted that the NPP government has outperformed the NDC in governance, particularly in the road sector.
According to the minister, the NPP’s achievements surpass those of the previous NDC administration across all sectors, including job creation, road infrastructure, education, and health. He stated that the evidence of these achievements is available for all to see.
In the road sector specifically, Hon. Asenso Boakye highlighted that during the NDC’s tenure between 2009 and 2017, a total of 4,636 kilometers of roads were constructed nationwide. In comparison, as of June 2024, the NPP government had completed 13,624 kilometers of roads.
He further mentioned that since 2017, the NPP government has constructed 36 major bridges across the country. Additionally, while the NDC managed to complete five interchanges in eight years, the NPP has delivered nine major interchanges, with over 13 more currently under construction at various stages of completion.
“In the road sector, we have done more than four times what the NDC achieved. Despite the negative impacts of COVID-19 on our economy, road development continued uninterrupted. Imagine if COVID-19 had occurred under the NDC; they might not have even completed the five interchanges they managed,” he remarked.
Asenso Boakye also emphasized the magnitude of the Suame Interchange project, describing it as one of the largest in the country. The project includes four mini interchanges at Maakro, Abusuakruwa, Anomangye, and Abrepo Junction underpass.
He noted that the Ashanti Region, in particular, has significantly benefited from the NPP’s road initiatives, with over 2,126 kilometers of roads constructed and more than 55 major projects completed under the current administration.
Looking ahead, the minister assured the people of the Ashanti Region of even greater improvements in road infrastructure if the NPP is granted another term in office. He described the region as strategic due to its role as a connector for many parts of the country.
Asenso Boakye also discussed plans for the Kumasi-Accra highway, the busiest in the country. He lamented that the dualization of this highway would have been completed had the NPP won the 2008 elections.
While acknowledging the significant progress made, he admitted that not all communities have benefited from road development. “Due to financial constraints, eight years is not enough to complete all the roads in Ghana,” he explained.
The minister concluded by reaffirming that the NPP government is committed to prioritizing road construction and delivering even more infrastructure if it is re-elected.
