Relief for Ahuntunano Community as Southey Contracting Commissions Rehabilitated Classroom Block

The farming community of Ahuntunano in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region has received a significant boost to education with the commissioning of a newly rehabilitated three-unit classroom block for the MA Primary School. The initiative was spearheaded by Southey Contracting Limited, a company that provides services to both offshore and onshore facilities, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

The project brings much-needed relief to the community, whose school building had been in a state of disrepair for years. Speaking at the commissioning, Mr. Kofi Yalley, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Southey Contracting Limited, emphasized the company’s commitment to human resource development, describing it as essential to national progress.

“Last year, we were in Butre in the Municipality to commission a bridge we constructed for the community. This year, after reviewing many applications, we chose to assist Ahuntunano MA Primary because education remains a top priority for us,” Mr. Yalley stated.

He indicated that after visiting the classrooms, Mr. Yalley observed that several classrooms lacked adequate desks for the pupils.

He assured the community that the company would provide enough desks to enhance the learning environment and urged both teachers and students to maintain the facility well to ensure its longevity.

Additionally, the CEO presented a collection of books to the school.

The Ahanta West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Honourable John Agyare, lauded the company’s intervention and encouraged students to take their education seriously. He highlighted that such investments are geared towards securing a brighter future for young learners.

Deputy Director in charge of Supervision and Monitoring at the Ahanta West Education Directorate, Alloysius Buadi, described the classroom block rehabilitation as timely and pledged that the building would be properly maintained.

Nana Egya Butsir X, Divisional Chief of Butre, advised parents to be more involved in their children’s education, stressing the importance of parental supervision in ensuring academic success.

The newly commissioned classroom block is expected to significantly improve learning conditions for the children of Ahuntunano, fostering a better educational experience for the community.
