Information Minister Vows to Enhance Quality Journalism and Sanitize Media Space

Ghana’s Information Minister, Fatimatu Abubakar, has expressed concern over the growing trend of media personnel using inappropriate and inflammatory language on various media platforms. She assured that the Ministry is committed to enhancing quality journalism and cleaning the space through training.

Launch of Media Capacity Enhancement Program (MCEP)

Speaking at the launch of the 3rd Cohort of MCEP in Accra, Minister Abubakar emphasized the critical role media professionals play in shaping public discourse. She urged them to exercise caution and responsibility in their communication.

Concerns and Challenges

Despite extensive formal training, some media personnel still engage in using malicious and harmful language, polluting public discourse and misleading audiences. The Minister stressed the importance of protecting and educating media professionals who maintain high standards, while holding accountable those who misuse their platforms.

Minister Abubakar highlighted the need for ongoing training, particularly for media leaders, as they influence their colleagues’ practices.

Gloria Hiadzi, Chairperson of MCEP’s Working Committee, noted that the program aims to uplift journalism through capacity building. She emphasized that this initiative provides opportunities for media persons to enhance their skills.
