“Blood Type Diet: More Fiction Than Fact, Says Dietitian”

The blood type diet is a popular diet that suggests your ABO blood group may determine the best foods for you to eat. However, very little scientific research supports its claimed benefits.

The blood type diet (BTD), also known as the blood group diet, was popularized in 1996 by Dr. Peter D’Adamo in his book “Eat Right 4 Your Type.”

It’s suggested over two decades in this book that eating right for you blood group would prolong once life, keep weight gain at optimal levels and prevent mortalities. Many readers took to it and it became a best selling book in the United States and other countries worldwide.

However, speaking on a Ghanaian based TV channel known as Original TV on Friday 16th August, 2024, which was on the topic “The Blood Type Diet; Does It Really Work?”, Mr. Prince Ishmael Dimah, a renown Ghanaian Dietitian took a swipe at the book. Though Mr Dimah didn’t outrightly condemn the practice,he asserted that there has not been any medical literature backing the practice over the years.

“Eating in moderation, exercise in moderation, cutting out on excessive alcohol intake, including seeds, nuts, adequate vegetables and fruits intake are practical ways to ensure good health and longevity” Mr. Prince Dimah pointed out.
” There were was reviews in 2013, 2014 and 2021 about Dr D’Adamo’s theory of Blood Type Diet (BTD). Interestingly, none of those reviews supported his propositions and claims.

Finalising his words on the show, he advised the public to continue good nutrition practices that benefited the individuals health instead of been strict on themselves by trying to follow what Dr. D’Adamo’s book claims.
