Gold for Oil is “419”, Account for it Else We Demonstrate- C-DAG to Gov’t
The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana (C-DAG) has given the government a one-week ultimatum to address its concerns over the Gold for Oil policy and the deplorable state of road networks. The association is threatening to embark on a demonstration if its demands are not met, citing the failure of the policy to stabilize fuel prices and the government’s neglect of the plight of drivers.
According to the National Chairman of C-DAG, Mr. Paa Willie, the Gold for Oil policy, which was implemented in 2023 to stabilize fuel prices and reduce dependence on foreign currencies for oil imports, has not served its purpose. Despite the policy, fuel prices have continued to rise, and the association believes that the government has failed to account for the gold used in the policy.
“We are in an election era, and if the NPP wants to break the eight, then they should do the needful,” Mr. Willie said in an interview with Kessben News. “We are giving them one week to account for the gold and address our concerns. If they fail, we will embark on a demonstration.”
The association is also lamenting the poor state of road networks, which they say continues to wreck their vehicles and put the lives of drivers and commuters in danger. They are calling on the President to account for the funding received for road rehabilitation, which they claim has not been utilized effectively.
“As a matter of fact, this government has failed to consider the plight of drivers,” Mr. Willie said. “We are calling on them to take our concerns seriously and address them promptly.”
