NPP to elect flagbearer on Nov 4, Dr. Bawumia informs majority caucus of his intent to contest

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, vice president, has declared his ambition to head the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the general elections in 2024.

The Vice President reportedly made this announcement in a meeting with the Parliament majority caucus behind closed doors.

The majority of NPP MPs supported the Vice President’s action at the meeting on Tuesday night.

Dr. Bawumia is widely seen as the favorite to succeed President Akufo-Addo in 2024, but he will face opposition from Alan Kyeremanteng, a three-time candidate who resigned in January of this year to concentrate on his bid for the presidency.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr. Mustapha Hamid, reaffirmed his support for him and stated that there is no question that Dr. Bawumia will serve as the flagbearer.

Former trade minister Alan Kyeremanten, former NPP general secretary Kwabena Agyapong, independent MP Kennedy Ohene Agyepong, and former agriculture minister Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto are other candidates for the job of flagbearer. Dr. Hamid claims that each of these people is aware that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will win the competition. He believes that Dr. Bawumia is the greatest candidate to lead the NPP due to his outstanding performance as Vice President and other attributes.
