A big tree has fallen in Dagbon as Mionlana Mahamadu Abdulai is reported Dead
The Paramount Chief of Mion, His Royal Highness, Mionlana Mahamadu Abdulai V has died after a short illness at the 37 Military hospital in Accra. Naa Mahamadu Abdulai has since been laid to rest at Sambu, the traditional capital of Mion in line with Dagbon customs and tradition.
The Chief passed on to glory on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at age 48. He was enskinned as Mionlana on March 3, 2019, at the Gbewa Palace in Yendi following the ascension of Ya Naa Abukari II as the King and Overlord of the Dagbon State. The deceased is the first son of the late Ya Naa Mahamadu Abdulai IV and was eligible to ascend to the Dagbang Namship (Ya Naa).
He was 14 when the father died and was accordingly enskinned as Boling-Lana Mahamadu Abdulai, a day after Ya Naa Mahamadu Abdulai IV was buried at the Katini duu (Sacred house).
Meanwhile, the Mionlana was very passionate about the education and skills development of the youth in the underserved community. He keenly monitored education in the Mion district and advocated for government to improve the teaching and learning environment particularly infrastructure and learning materials.
He personally supported pupils in some instances with books and other learning equipment and would pay unannounced visits to schools during teaching hours. The revered Chief was also a crusader against teenage pregnancy and the migration of the youth particularly young women from the north to seek greener pastures in the south.
Mionlana Mahamadu Abdulai was born in 1974, a period many described as the thick and thin days when his late father was facing political and uncustomary turbulence by his detractors.
