WAEC Releases 2026 BECE Results, Sanctions Hundreds Over Exam Malpractice
In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 29, WAEC announced that the results have been sent to schools through Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education. Candidates can also check their results online via the Council’s official results portal.
This year’s BECE was taken by 620,243 candidates, comprising 304,415 males and 315,828 females, from 20,789 schools. The examination was conducted at 2,237 centres nationwide, with 3,601 registered candidates absent.
WAEC said special arrangements were made to support candidates with special educational needs, including 136 visually impaired students, 282 hearing-impaired candidates and 510 others requiring additional assistance.
Following its review of examination irregularities, WAEC’s 37th Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee approved sanctions against candidates found guilty of malpractice. The Council cancelled the subject results of 496 candidates and the entire results of 105 candidates for various offences.
In addition, the subject results of 119 candidates have been withheld, while the full results of 48 candidates remain under investigation. WAEC also withheld the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools for further review.
The Council expects all investigations to be completed by August 31, 2026. Depending on the findings, the affected results will either be released or cancelled.
Candidates affected by withheld or cancelled results have been advised to visit WAEC’s irregularities portal or use the withheld/cancelled results section on the Council’s website for further details. School heads can also access the information through their official accounts.
WAEC also warned the public to ignore fraudsters claiming they can upgrade or alter examination results for a fee, stressing that its results are secure, tamper-proof and can be verified.
The Council thanked the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, security agencies, school authorities, supervisors, invigilators, examiners and other stakeholders for their support in ensuring the successful conduct of the 2026 BECE and the timely release of the results.
