Robert Lewandowski Turned Down €200m Saudi Offer Before Leaving Barcelona

Robert Lewandowski reportedly rejected a staggering €200 million contract offer from Saudi Arabia during his final season at Barcelona, choosing to remain with the Spanish giants before eventually joining MLS side Chicago Fire this summer.

The revelation was made by the Polish striker’s agent, Pini Zahavi, who said Lewandowski received an offer worth €100 million per season over two years, a deal that would have made him one of the world’s highest-paid footballers.

Speaking to Polish outlet *SportoweFakty*, Zahavi explained that Lewandowski rejected the proposal because he was fully committed to Barcelona at the time.

“He had a two-year offer worth €100 million per season, but he wanted to stay at Barcelona,” Zahavi said.

Although Saudi Arabia was considered an attractive destination due to its proximity to Poland and the financial rewards on offer, Lewandowski refused to leave the Catalan club midway through the campaign.

Zahavi admitted he later warned the striker that such a lucrative offer might not be available in the future, as Saudi clubs had begun changing their transfer strategy.

Lewandowski’s departure from Barcelona eventually came after he could no longer be guaranteed a regular place in the starting line-up.

According to Zahavi, Barcelona president Joan Laporta wanted the veteran forward to stay, but sporting director Deco and head coach Hansi Flick could not promise him consistent playing time.

With first-team opportunities becoming uncertain, Lewandowski decided to explore other options, leading to his move to Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer.
