The Belgium Branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has elected a new leadership team in a peaceful but keenly contested poll held on 25th July 2026, setting the tone for the Party’s diaspora mobilization ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Delegates from across the branch converged to vote for 11 executive positions. While 8 positions were filled unopposed, the races for Chairperson, Secretary, and Women’s Organiser drew intense attention and strong campaign rhetoric.
Decisive Wins for Solomon and Dauda, Upset in Secretary Race
At the close of polls, Chairman of the Belgium Branch Electoral Committee, Nana Richard Amoako, declared the results.
Chairmanship: Incumbent Mr. Agyin Amankwah Solomon secured a decisive victory with 59 votes against challenger Madam Akosua Nyamekye who polled 19 votes.
Women’s Organiser: Hajia Saida Dauda also won emphatically, garnering 60 votes to defeat Madam Mercy Debrah who had 18 votes.
Branch Secretary: The biggest talking point was the Secretary contest. Mr. Andrews Kwame Perprem delivered a commanding performance, defeating the incumbent and Ranking Member Mr. Seth Debrah Oduro by 53 votes to 24.
The result came as a surprise to many, given Mr. Oduro’s long-standing influence and his earlier public assertions of being indispensable to the branch’s operations. Having served two consecutive terms, his defeat signals a major shift in the branch’s internal dynamics.
New Era Begins
The newly elected executives were officially sworn into office by Mr. Eric Ntori of the IT Directorate at the NPP Asylum Headquarters, marking the start of a new administrative era for the branch.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Secretary, Mr. Andrews Kwame Perprem, thanked delegates for what he called a “massive endorsement” of his vision. He pledged to implement his flagship “10 Means of Restructuring the Branch” — a strategic agenda aimed at repositioning the Belgium Branch for greater unity, efficiency, and electoral success.
“This mandate is about rebuilding and delivering,” Perprem stated. “We will work to unite all factions and strengthen our structures for 2028.”
Path to 2028
Political observers note that the scale of Mr. Perprem’s victory places significant expectations on the new leadership to heal divisions after a campaign period marked by strong rhetoric, allegations, and political tensions.
Despite the heated buildup, the voting process itself was conducted in a calm, orderly, and transparent manner, earning praise from observers and party faithful.
With a renewed team now in place, the NPP Belgium Branch is expected to consolidate its structures, deepen grassroots engagement, and strengthen its role within the broader diaspora political landscape as Ghana approaches the crucial 2028 elections.
