CPP Empathizes with Flood Victims, Proposes Bi-Partisan Committee to Oversee Relief Distribution

The Convention People’s Party has expressed sympathy with victims of the recent Accra floods and is calling for the creation of a bi-partisan committee to ensure relief items and funds are distributed fairly.

In a statement signed by National Communications Director, Comrade Osei Kofi Acquah, the CPP said it stands with all those affected by the June 29 flooding and is ready to support recovery efforts.

“We are still in the rainy months”
The party raised concerns about sanitation conditions worsening the disaster. It cited “huge piles of waste and garbage” clogging gutters and waterways, and “heaps of sand” choking drainage systems across affected communities.

“We want to remind government and the people of Ghana that we are still in the rainy months,” the statement said.

The CPP warned that the flooding of homes, businesses, and public places “is going to have a big toll on our Economy” and described the disaster as “avoidable” without immediate intervention.

Proposal: Bi-Partisan Relief Oversight
To depoliticize the relief process, the CPP is proposing a bi-partisan committee in all flood-hit areas made up of representatives from the three main political parties: CPP, NPP and NDC.

The committee’s mandate, according to the party, would be to help oversee the fair distribution of aid, assistance, relief items and funds to victims.

“We are proposing this with the hope of depoliticizing the unfortunate situation that has befallen our people,” the CPP stated.

CPP Offers Youth Volunteers for Clean-up
Beyond relief, the party said it is ready to deploy members of its Youth Wing to support government’s dredging and waste removal efforts.
The CPP offered to help with “the dredging, excavating and removal of all the waste from our streets, particularly our drainage system, to prevent yet another calamity.”
The party also urged all Ghanaians to volunteer in clearing impediments from drains and gutters to reduce the risk of future flooding.
Closing
The statement ended with the party’s rallying call: “We are involved in building our mother Land. Forward Ever!”
The June 29 floods displaced families, destroyed property and left dozens dead, prompting calls from across the political divide for stronger drainage infrastructure and a more coordinated disaster response.
