Tragedy on Volta roads as three crashes leave six perished

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on Sunday, June 21, 2026, responded promptly to several road traffic accidents across the Volta Region, rescuing 34 people. Sadly, six individuals lost their lives in the incidents.
The first accidents occurred on the Todome section near Kpeve along the Peki–Kpeve Road. Personnel from the Peki Fire Station were dispatched after receiving an emergency call at 12:53 GMT regarding two separate crashes that happened simultaneously.
One of the collisions involved a MAN Diesel TGS truck, registration number GT 9993-18, travelling from Tema to Tamale, and a Toyota Camry, registration number GE 735-14, travelling from Nkwanta to Accra.
Before the rescue team arrived, all five occupants of the two vehicles—four men and one woman—had already been rescued. Both vehicles sustained partial damage.
The second crash involved a Metro Mass Transit bus with registration number AS 4984-09, which was travelling from Accra to Dambai with 28 passengers on board.
Firefighters successfully extricated and rescued 24 passengers, made up of seven men and seventeen women. The injured victims were transported to Peki Government Hospital for treatment.
Unfortunately, four people—one man and three women—were pronounced dead at the scene. Their bodies were later handed over to the Police for preservation and further investigations.
In a separate incident at the Ho Civic Centre, a rescue team from the Ho Regional Headquarters responded to another road accident after receiving a distress call at 13:04 GMT.
Led by ADO II Seth Sarfo, the firefighters arrived at the location within two minutes and immediately began rescue operations.
