Gov’t to build STEM community day SHSs in Zongo areas-Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans by government to construct Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics( STEM)  community day senior high schools in densely populated Zongo and urban communities across the country to improve access to secondary education.

Speaking during the Eid-ul-Adha celebration at the Black Star Square in Accra, President Mahama said the initiative forms part of government’s broader commitment to expanding educational opportunities for underserved communities.

According to the President, many students from Zongo communities are often posted to schools far from their homes, creating difficulties for both students and their families.

“So where we have dense Zongo communities or dense urban populations, we will put modern community day senior high schools right within the communities so that the children do not have to travel far away,” he stated.

President Mahama explained that the proposed schools would help bring quality secondary education closer to deprived communities while easing the burden associated with long-distance school placements.

He commended chiefs and community leaders for supporting the initiative through the release of land for the projects.

“I wish to express my sincere thanks to the Council of Zongo Chiefs for generously providing land for these important projects,” he said.

The President noted that the government remains committed to improving education, infrastructure and economic opportunities in Zongo communities as part of its broader national development agenda.

He disclosed that road construction and rehabilitation projects would soon begin in several Zongo communities across the country to improve living conditions and access to social services.

President Mahama also highlighted efforts to create employment opportunities for the youth through the recruitment of 6,000 Arabic teachers by the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).

He said all the recruited teachers had been fully paid and assured that the initiative would be expanded in the coming years.

President Mahama reaffirmed government’s commitment to ensuring inclusive development and equal opportunities for all communities across the country.
