Mahama cuts sod for ultra-modern 24-hour market in Bole

President John Dramani Mahama has cut sod for the construction of an ultra-modern 24-hour market in Bole in the Savannah Region, describing the project as a major economic game changer for the area and surrounding communities.
Speaking at a brief ceremony in Bole, President Mahama said the market forms part of the government’s nationwide 24-hour economy initiative aimed at boosting trade, agriculture, and local economic activity across the country.
He noted that 261 model markets are expected to be constructed nationwide, with Bole receiving what he described as the “biggest” category of the project.
“This is going to be one of the busiest markets in the whole of Ghana because of its location,” he said.
Mahama thanked the Bole Traditional Council and residents for releasing prime land for the project, adding that the sacrifices made, including demolition of some existing properties, would benefit future generations.
The President said the market would provide a modern outlet for farmers to sell produce such as maize, yams, groundnuts, beans, and vegetables, while also stimulating economic activity through continuous circulation of money within the community.
According to him, the facility will operate day and night and will include several modern features designed to improve security, sanitation, healthcare, and convenience for traders and customers.
Key Features
The market will include:
71 lockable shops on the ground floor
61 additional lockable shops upstairs
132 open sheds for traders
Warehouses and cold stores
A police post and fire station
A clinic and pharmacy
Toilet and shower facilities
A lorry terminal and parking area for heavy trucks
Restaurants and shopping spaces
A daycare centre for traders’ children
A women’s bank branch
Guest rooms for traders travelling from distant communities
Mahama explained that the market would also have a dedicated meat shop for butchers, modern refuse disposal systems, and a continuous water supply system.
“Aside from providing a market for agricultural produce, it will help money circulate within the community and help Bole prosper economically,” he stated.
Mahama also used the occasion to announce several other development projects for the Savannah Region, including a new Bole College of Education, a district hospital, roads, water systems, a TVET centre, and a proposed University of Science and Technology.
He expressed confidence that many of the projects would be completed before the end of his mandate in 2028.
