Charles McCarthy of The Hawk Newspaper has launched a fierce attack on the leadership of the opposition New Patriotic Party, accusing the party of hypocrisy and double standards in its handling of the controversial Abronye DC court case and internal disciplinary matters.
Speaking about the growing tensions within the party on the Kessben Maakye show in Accra, McCarthy questioned why some party figures appear to be protected despite making inflammatory comments.
“Can we say what Abronye said to Bishop Duncan Williams and Dominic Ayini to Afenyo or Bawumia today?” he asked.
McCarthy argued that comments made by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin about a judge should be equated with statements allegedly made by Abronye DC.
“If Afenyo could say he doubts if the judge passed his law exams, it is not the same as what Abronye has been saying,” he stated. The veteran editor reserved some of his sharpest criticism for NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, whom he described as “a walking contradiction and a disgrace to the NPP.”
According to McCarthy, the party’s credibility has suffered after referring a regional chairman, Abronye, to a disciplinary committee, only for him to reject the process as a “kangaroo committee” without facing sanctions.
Has Kodua any principle at all… McCarthy quizzed.
He further accused certain sections of the party leadership of defending unruly conduct rather than condemning it, warning that such actions could damage the party’s public image ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“Instead of them condemning unruly behavior and detrimental comments, they are defending it,” he said.
The comments add to ongoing debates within the NPP over party discipline, freedom of expression, and leadership consistency as internal tensions continue to simmer.
