The arrest of Asante Akyem MP Ohene Kwame Frimpong: The US didn’t respect Ghana – Mahmoud Kabore
Mahmoud Kabore, spokesperson for Ghana’s Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, has criticised the United States over the arrest of Asante Akyem North MP Ohene Kwame Frimpong, saying the move showed disrespect toward Ghana as a sovereign nation.
Speaking on Kessben TV, Kabore argued that Ghanaian authorities should have been formally engaged before any action was taken against the legislator. He questioned why a sitting Ghanaian Member of Parliament could be detained abroad without prior consultation with the Ghanaian government.
Frimpong was reportedly arrested at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam in connection with an alleged US-led investigation. Ghana’s Parliament later confirmed the incident and said diplomatic efforts were underway to gather details surrounding the arrest.
The MP has denied any wrongdoing, and no formal charges have yet been publicly announced by US authorities.
