Coconut harvesting areas destroyed by Galamsey – Frank Otuo Acheampong

Frank Otuo Acheampong has defended the government against criticisms over rising coconut prices, arguing that illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey, are a major factor affecting coconut production in parts of Ghana.
Speaking on Kessben FM, Mr. Acheampong stated that many areas traditionally known for coconut farming and harvesting have been heavily affected by illegal mining operations, reducing agricultural productivity and contributing to price increases.
According to him, it would be unfair to place sole blame on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for the rising cost of coconuts. He explained that environmental destruction caused by galamsey has disrupted farming activities and negatively impacted the supply of agricultural produce in several communities.
Mr. Acheampong further noted that the issue requires a collective national effort to address illegal mining and protect farmlands from further destruction. He stressed that tackling galamsey would help restore agricultural production and stabilize food prices over time.
