President Mahama announces 40 more armoured vehicles to boost police operations

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to procure an additional 40 armoured vehicles for the Ghana Police Service, as part of efforts to strengthen security operations and enhance officer safety.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Divisional Police Headquarters at Krobo Odumase in the Eastern Region, President emphasized the critical need to equip police personnel with modern tools to effectively combat crime.

“As soon as we came into office last year, we placed an order for 40 armoured vehicles for the Ghana Police Service, and they’ve played a very big role in countering armed robbery,” he said.

“I’m happy to inform the IGP that another 40 armoured cars are coming,” President Mahama announced.

He stressed that protecting security personnel remains a top priority, particularly in the fight against violent crime.

“When you send our officers to protect you and fight violent people, you have to provide them with the instruments and the tools to be able to do so,” he stated.

President Mahama noted that past practices often exposed officers to unnecessary risks, recalling that light vehicles were previously deployed in high-risk operations.

“In the past, we used to give them light pickups to go on patrol against armed robbers, and we lost many men and women in the line of duty. We don’t want that to happen again,” he added.

According to the President, the additional armoured vehicles will boost operational capacity, improve rapid response, and provide better protection for officers across the country.
