Wofa Kofi Appiah advocates solar-owered traffic lights in Ghana

Wofa Kofi Appiah has called for a nationwide shift to solar-powered traffic lights, arguing that Ghana must adopt more reliable and sustainable solutions to manage road traffic.

Speaking on his Kessben Maakye show on Kessben FM, Appiah questioned why many traffic lights in the country still depend on electricity despite frequent power challenges.

“Where the world has gotten to now, no traffic light in Ghana should be powered by electricity. It should all be solar by now to avoid so many challenges,” he stated.

He explained that the current reliance on grid power contributes to traffic congestion, especially during outages, and increases the risk of accidents at busy intersections. According to him, solar-powered systems would ensure continuous operation and reduce disruptions.

Appiah further noted that many countries are already embracing renewable energy solutions for public infrastructure, and Ghana should not lag behind. He urged authorities to prioritize investment in solar technology to improve road safety and efficiency.
