La General Hospital on track for November 2027 completion- Mahama assures

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed government’s commitment to completing the La General Hospital project on schedule, following an inspection of the ongoing works in Accra.

Speaking during the visit, the President expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction, while stressing the need to maintain momentum. “The hospital is progressing quite well, and we want to make sure that it doesn’t stall and that it continues and is delivered on due date,” he said.

He disclosed that the contractor has assured government of a clear timeline for completion. “The contractor assures us that by November 2027 we should be able to commission this hospital,” President Mahama stated.

Highlighting the significance of the project, the President noted that the demolition of the old facility has placed additional pressure on other health institutions in the capital. “This hospital is important because since it was demolished and was no longer serving patients, all the patients who used to come here now go to Ridge Hospital, or they go to LEKMA or to Korle Bu,” he explained.

President Mahama emphasized that the new facility will play a critical role in easing congestion and improving healthcare delivery. “It is important that we get this hospital back in a better shape, to provide an additional 160 beds,” he added.

The redevelopment of the La General Hospital forms part of government’s broader efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and expand access to quality medical services across the country.
