WAEC Releases Update on Withheld Results of 2024 WASSCE Candidates

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released an update on the withheld results of candidates who sat for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The update was announced by Mr. John K. Kapi, Head of Public Affairs, WAEC.

According to the statement, a total of 460,611 candidates from 1,003 schools sat for the examination, but several irregularities were recorded during the exam. These irregularities included bringing foreign materials into the examination halls, snapping and posting questions on social media, distributing photocopied responses to candidates, and cases of invigilators assisting candidates.

As a result, WAEC took several actions, including the cancellation of subject results and entire results of some candidates, as well as the withholding of results for others.

The Council has concluded its investigations and has invited affected candidates to meet with officials for a fair hearing. The Council assures that all cases of malpractice will be finalized, and all results released by February 28, 2025.

WAEC stresses that the fight against examination malpractice requires collective effort and appeals to parents, guardians, and stakeholders to cooperate in expediting the release of outstanding results.
