‘Stop talking and get the work done” – Veteran Sports Journalist, Sir Joe Laka tells the ORAL team
Sir Joe Laka, well known for his no-nonsense approach, has offered a sharp caution to the ORAL team to focus on its work.
The ORAL team, which emerged as part of the John Mahama, President elect’s initiative, was conceived to investigate and recover funds or assets that were allegedly misappropriated during the tenure of the previous government. The team’s name itself, “Operations Recover All Loot,” is indicative of the bold and ambitious task at hand: identifying and reclaiming resources that were supposedly misused or stolen.
“We need action, not talk,” Laka emphasized in speaking on Kessben Sports said. Sir Joe Laka said If the ORAL team is serious about recovery, they need to get to work and produce results
Some members of the team and leading members of the NDC have been vocal in its public proclamations, often engaging in debates, offering progress updates, and issuing statements of intent. However, as Sir Joe Laka points out, none of this is translating into visible action.
Laka, a figure respected for his straightforward and candid commentary, highlights the frustration of ordinary Ghanaians who have grown weary of hearing the same promises without seeing tangible results. His calls for action are not just limited to political discourse but reflect a broader sentiment of accountability that has been echoed by citizens demanding more from their leaders.
The NDC, which created the ORAL team in response to widespread public concerns about corruption and mismanagement, has repeatedly emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability. The purpose of the team was to address these concerns by recovering assets and funds thought to have been wrongly acquired during the previous administration.
For the ORAL team to truly fulfill its mandate, Sir Joe Laka believes it is imperative that they focus less on speaking and more on doing. His advice is clear: Move from statements and strategies to concrete action. By setting specific, measurable goals and delivering on them, the team can regain the public’s trust and demonstrate its commitment to rooting out corruption.
Moreover, Laka stresses that the effectiveness of the ORAL team will ultimately be judged by the outcomes of its operations. If the team can recover the resources that were alleged to have been misused and restore faith in the country’s political institutions, it will have fulfilled its mission.
