Ghana Makes Strides in Employment, Labour Relations, and Pensions -Hon. Ignatius Baffour-Awuah

The Ghanaian government has achieved significant milestones in promoting harmonious industrial relations, creating jobs, and strengthening pension management, according to Hon. Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, Minister for Employment, Labour Relations, and Pensions.

In a recent press briefing, Minister Baffour-Awuah highlighted the government’s efforts to maintain industrial peace, promote decent work, and improve the welfare of workers and employers.

Industrial Peace and Labour Relations

Ghana has enjoyed a relatively peaceful labour front, thanks to collective efforts and effective dispute resolution mechanisms. The government has resolved all industrial disputes, ensuring stability and security in the country.

Job Creation and Employment Initiatives

The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has engaged 116,089 beneficiaries in various modules, including community protection, health workers, waste management, and skills training. Additionally, the Ghanaian-European Centre for Jobs, Migration, and Development has facilitated job placements for 61,419 individuals.

Pension Management and Reforms

The National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) is automating its operations to enhance efficiency and security. The government has also increased pension coverage, with active contributors rising from 1.35 million in 2016 to over 2 million in 2024.

Ghana Jobs and Skills Project

The government is implementing the Ghana Jobs and Skills Project to strengthen labour administration, enhance job creation, and promote skills development. The project includes the development of a labour market information system, construction of new public employment centers, and procurement of vehicles and equipment.

Warning Against Fraudulent Employment Schemes

The minister cautioned against fraudulent employment schemes and emphasized the government’s collaboration with security agencies to address this issue.
