If a man is taking care of you, he has to be in charge – Stonebwoy

Ghanaian dancehall musician Stonebwoy made a historic appearance on New York’s Breakfast Club radio show, explaining African music dynamics and the “African men like to control” paradox.

During the interview, where the future of African music and others were discussed, the hosts were equally interested in confirming talks about how African men spend on their women.

Stonebwoy shared his opinions as an African man, with an African upbringing, in a Ghanaian cultural setting. He said, “I think it’s part of our culture and upbringing. Like you need to be the man of the house, you need to take care of the home. And so that translates to how we deal with our women as well.”

Stonebwoy noted that African men like to be in charge and somewhat control their women. But he added that this kind of control is not abuse because he does not support abuse. Instead, he is attracted to submissive and respectful women whom he called feminine.

“And that gives you a certain amount of control. Not in a bad way, of course. Different people do things for different reasons. As much as some men would want to be taking care of you so they can keep you and have you and be with you, they have to be in charge. That’s what a man has to be. We love to have women who are respectful and submissive.”

Stonebwoy’s interview with the Breakfast Club was a huge success as the world keeps talking about the insightful nuggets he shared about Afrobeats and other African-rooted genres.

He also made his debut appearance at the Grammys over the weekend, where he was seen in the company of international stars like Taylor Swift, Fat Joe and Harvey Mason Jr, the CEO of the Grammy Awards.
