E Levy: We were expecting GHC60 billion a year but we’ve not even made 1 billion – Deputy Speaker Hon Joe Osei-Wusu

MP for Bekwai constituency and the 1st deputy speaker of parliament, Hon Joseph Osei Wusu has expressed disappointment over how most Ghanaians are shying away from paying E Levy.

The lawmaker says the estimated revenue that Government was looking forward to accrue from the E levy has not been forthcoming.

According to him, the Government of Ghana estimated GHC60 billion to be raised in a year from the E levy but after barely 4 months of the implementation of the electronic tax, not even GHC1 billion has been accrued.

The government commenced the implementation of the levy on May 1, 2022, as a revenue tunnel for the country to revive the current economic woes.

Ghanaians were made to believe that after the implementation of the E levy there will be enough for the nation not to resort to IMF but unfortunately Ghana had to still go for an IMF bailout.

Hon Joe Osei-Wusu blames the seeming fiasco of the E levy on the attitude of some Ghanaians and the opposition NDC who propagated against it.
